16 POST-GAZETTE: March 24, 1976 Ann Landers Axing Office 'Duds 5 Defended VJirJUP TOMOOO cksH PLAY fmiiy Jeatures Dear Ann: May I comment on the letter from "Frustrated In Orange County," the fellow who complained about the jerk in the office the stumblebum who couldn't make a decision, the inept rock-head everyone had to work around? The question was, "Why don't the executives do something about those turkeys?" My husband is an executive who was brought to this branch office to reorganize things and move the turkeys out. When it came down to the wire, the ones who yelled the Parents Ask ach, before a man is let go. Those decisions are awfully tough but they must be made in the best interest of the company. Perhaps the next time you com-plainers look into the tired eyes of the boss you'll see compassion instead of ruthlessness. They are human, too.

Married To One Dear M.T.O.: Letters against the boss outnumbered the ones in support of him ten to one. Thanks for giving us a balanced perspective. Dear Ann: You were wise to tell the teacher to speak to the parents when a child's behavior indicates he might be psychologically disturbed. But obviously, you've never been a teacher. Drive. Sethal Park. Pennsylvania It's the correct thing to do, but it isn't easy. You wouldn't believe the hostility exhibited by some parents when a teacher suggests that Junior or Mary may be depressed, disturbed, slightly retarded, dyslec-tic, or hyperkinetic. The best way to handle the situation is turn it over to the guidance department or the school nurse.

Parents attach no stigma to the problem if they think the basis is chemical or organic. What they don't want is to be told that Johnny is doing poorly because he is spoiled, unmotivated, undisciplined and was never taught respect for others or decent manners at home. Seen Plenty Dear Seen: So have I. Only I get the picture in letters, from mothers who call the teachers incompetent and mean because they are unable to transform a spoiled, unmotivated, rude kid into a mannerly, -respectful, brainy student in half a semester. Thousands of teachers across the land deserve medals, not criticism.

Dear Ann: Would the necro-philiac like to have my wife, since his bride took off? I have been making love to her for 20 years, if you can call it that, and she would be the perfect partner for him. The woman lies there like she's dead. Please put me in touch with the guy who wrote. He would be crazy about her. Sign me I'd Like A Live One Dear I.L.: Sorry, Buster, this isn't that kind of a column.

If, after 20 years, the situation is so blah, maybe you need some counseling on how to make a woman feel alive. FRANCES S. WEST, 534 Cora Street, Pittsburgh, Pa. 1520,8 ROSE BENKO, 5510 Babcock Pittsburgh, Pa. 15237 VIOLET MORRIS, 2486 Skidmore Road, Greensburg, Pa.

Though there is nothing wrong with a preference for pink, and nothing wrong with being gentle and kind and un-athletic, parents do worry that their gentle boy will grow up to be a too-gentle man. When girls are rough and tough, parents tend to be rather proud; but when boys are quiet and gentle, they worry. It is true that it helps a boy to grow up to behave in what we consider masculine ways if there is a good father-image present in the home or close by in his life. Fortunately your son does have a father-image, even though your husband, like many fathers, is not too enthusiastic abotit playing with his son. This is not necessarily fatal.

It is good for Jeff to attend nursery school. A less-structured school where he would need to stand up for himself, play with other children and engage in the customary rough and tumble of the unstructured, play-oriented school might be harder for him but might help to toughen him up. There is no reason to suppose your son is going to grow up to be a homosexual, as you fear. Even if he did, that's not the end of the world. Deviation from the more conventional ways is increasingly accepted.

So try to enjoy your boy for what he is. Encourage physical activity and socializing with other children but do not push. There is much to be said for a gentle man. By LOUISE BATES AMES, Ph.D. Dear Dr.

Ames: It's 4 a.m. and I decided to write to you with my problem rather than wake my husband with my tossing and turning. We have a beautiful aImost-4 year old little boy, Jeffie. We love him dearly but I worry about him dreadfully. His favorite color is pink and he doesn't play with other little boys.

They are too rough and he is afraid he will get hurt. I am truly concerned that I may be raising a less than masculine boy. I know I am partly at fault. When he was an infant I hovered over him and trembled that he might fall and hurt himself. Now that I have realized my mistake, I'm having a hard time convincing him that it is OK to go out and play roughly.

I put some of the blame on my. husband. He works hard and when he comes home, finds it hard to play with Jeff. He will hold him on his lap while he watches TV but that's as far as it goes. He does not initiate games with Jeff, and he never suggests that ihey go outside and play ball.

Jeff goes to nursery school but it is a structured school. He seems to prefer this to others we visited where the children were allowed more' freedom. I may be making a mountain out of a molehill but I feel threatened by my son's gentleness.
